Will you MARy me? Mariam is full of smiles as she gives her newly-wed husband Victor a sip of the soda
Her voice behind the microphone has always caused many to make wild guessing on how Mariam Kabendera, daughter to famous former Radio Rwanda presenter, the late Shinani Kabendera, may look like. But Mariam, who presents the sports news on 89.7 Contact FM, is a down-to-earth, simple-looking girl, who to the oblivion of the many was secretly planning a big surprise to the entertainment fraternity in the country.
On Thursday 13th September 2012, Mariam tied a knot with former workmate Victor Nkindi in Kicukiro in her residential home, in a ceremony attended by hundreds, the masses and stars alike. In an-eight-hour Muslim customary ceremony that stretched from introduction ceremony, dowry giving and civil marriage at Gatenga sector, the couple was officially declared man and wife.
Mariam Kabendera’s daily sports programme runs at 6pm for a full hour on Contact FM. She is also sister to Tijara Kabendera, who does a music presentation on Radio Rwanda, an indication of the passion and radio presentation virtuoso that runs in the family’s blood. Among the stars that performed at the ceremony include local RnB singers Tom Close and Afro style kingpin Kitoko.
