Film Script Writers to be Awarded

In partnership with Goethe Institute, GIZ, KfW, Rhineland-Palatinate, Plan Rwanda and International Alert, Rwandan script writers will again enter into this annual script writers’ competition. The official launch took place at the GIZ and KfW country offices, following a successful 2012 similar competition on Gender Based Violence.

This year’s competition will focus on the idea of reconciliation and solidarity building. Reconciliation can be addressed in the broadest possible sense: as a form of overcoming conflicts on the level of friends and family, neighbors, at work, within a nation, between countries etc. The dimension of “reconciliation with oneself” is also one of the possible interpretations of the subject. Young Rwandan filmmakers interested to participate are asked to create an idea, a synopsis and a sample script for a short film to deal with reconciliation and solidarity seen from a new perspective.

An independent jury will select the best projects. The principal awards to be announced on 25 June 2013 will enable the chosen film directors to produce their short film. The finished films will be presented on the occasion of a Gala held on 28 March 2014 thus contributing to the 20th commemoration of the Rwandan genocide. Deadline for submission of the film projects (4 pages maximum each) is Wednesday 15 May 2013. A total of 22.000 US Dollars will be provided for the production of the three winning projects.
