Kayonza residents will be graced by Talentum, Rwanda’s sole singing competition that seeks to uplift and detect young singing talent, on Saturday 1st June 2013. The competition which was pioneered by musician Skizzy, is held annually in all parts of the country, while the eventual winner is crowned in Kigali city. Already there have been three sites visited namely Kigali, Huye and Musanze, with each site producing five contestants who will battle it out in the final round.

Originally known as talent detection, the competition changed its name to Talentum after the Ministry of Youth and ICT in partnership with the National Youth Council took the mantle and injected a sponsorship into it. In Kayonza, the competition will be held indoors at Mukarange Sector from 8am.

Those willing to sign for the competition part with 5,000Rwf. Skizzy spoke exclusively to rwandashow.com and said that so far after Kayonza there will be one site remaining, and that is Rusizi. He said, “We have seen amazing talent from young people. These are the kind of people that would strike you with their wonderful singing talent, but unfortunately they don’t have the means to exploit them. I think we are going to have a tougher competition compared to the other past editions because people have taken it seriously this time.”

The eventual winner goes home with a cool one million Rwandan francs, and is handed a recording contract with a reputable music studio in the country.
