Groove Awards, accolades given to outstanding gospel musicians, have set their foot in Rwanda. The awards, whose origin is rooted in Kenya, will be introduced in Rwanda to award the toil of gospel musicians who have made a mark in gospel music. The official ceremony to launch the awards took place at Kigali Serena Hotel on Wednesday 14th 2013 amid fanfare and excitement.

Speaking to the media after the launch, Fiona Phanny, Groove Awards representative said, “We are excited to be here because it’s the first time we’ve been to another country other than Kenya. The main aim of this ceremony was to launch Groove Awards in Rwanda. We have come from Kenya but we want to do a Rwandese gospel award ceremony.”

With nominees for its sixteen categories set to be announced at yet another gathering on 15th September 2013, Miss Phanny explained the criteria that will enable different musicians to fit into those categories. She said, “First you have to be a gospel artist and then we shall assess if you fulfill other prerequisites that each category demands.”
