Ikirezi Group Ltd, the company behind the organization and distribution of the annual Salax Music Awards, has cleared the air over rumors surrounding a possible cancellation of the ceremony due to be held at Kigali Serena Hotel next year.
Reports had hit headlines that the company was experiencing technical and logistical difficulties just three months before the actual event, further fuelling speculations that the function might be postponed or cancelled altogether.
Speaking to rwandashow.com Emma Claudine of Ikirezi Group acknowledged that there were “a few challenges” being encountered but that the ceremony would go ahead as planned.
She said: “Preparations are underway and they are at an advanced stage, but you know we meet challenges and difficulties here and there. What I can assure you is that come March you will be able to experience a good show.”
She added, “Each year we try to bring in something new and step up our efforts to make every edition better.”
Nevertheless the annual awards have somewhat endured criticisms over their lack of cash prize hand-outs with musicians only walking home with accolades, but Emma said Ikirezi Group was working on the issue, although she refused to divulge further details when pinned down on when such an arrangement would enter into effect.
Salax Awards are held annually and next year’s edition will be the sixth. Last year, Urban Boyz dominated the ceremony, winning a record four accolades including Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and Artist of the Year as well as Song of the Year.
