 Radio Salus turns eight

It was full merriment in Huye town on Sunday November 17, 2013 as one of Rwanda’s famous Radio stations, Salus celebrated their 8th anniversary.

The station went live for the first time on 18th November 2005; it operates in the premises of the National University of Rwanda located in Huye District, Southern Province.

The Radio started as the University practical guide for journalism students.

Radio Salus Director, Eugene Hagabimana credited the station for their big role in developing and educating Rwandans.

According to Salus Director, most renowned journalists in Rwanda were nurtured by the station.

The Director gave examples of: Aldo Havugimana the current Director of Radio Rwanda, Richard Kwizera, also former Rwanda Tv presenter and now with Kigalitoday.com (multimedia department),  Jado Castar Bagirishya currently  working with Radio 10 , Germain Uwahiriwe presently living in Canada and more others.

The station started broadcasting with few employees and depended largely on Journalism interns from the University.

Salus also boasts of nurturing over 200 Radio hosts and journalists; the likes of Sandrine Isheja, Andrew Shyaka (KigaliToday.com),Henry Jado Uwihanganye , Jado Fils, MC Kate Gustave, Ritha Bumwe Marie Clarisse, Rukizangabo Shami Aloyz, Carine Umutoni to mention but a few.

The anniversary ceremony which was celebrated a day before the actual date was attended by journalists including former presenters and programme producers as well university officials.
