Singer Uncle Austin has expressed optimism ahead of next year’s annual Salax Music Awards, adding that for the first time he expects to go home with an accolade.
Austin who has never won any award in the competition’s five years of existence believes time is ripe for him to be recognized as an influential figure on the Rwandan music scene.
Since his album launch Uteye Ubusambo this year, Austin has been swimming in a current of success and thinks it should be one of the factors to warrant him an award come March 2014.
“I think everyone sees that I deserve it,” he said. “I have talked to different people including the chairperson of Ikirezi Group (responsible for the organization and staging of the awards) and they all think I am now at par with my fellow musicians who have at one time won the awards.”
Meanwhile Ikirezi Group have announced that all is set and ready to commence the nomination process in different categories, while the big night will be staged at Kigali Serena Hotel in March 2014.
