Police authorities have confirmed the arrest of Rwandan musician Kizito Mihigo alongside two other people on suspicion of terror activities.

The other two include Cassien Ntamuhanga, the Chief Executive Officer of Amazing Grace Radio and Jean Paul Dukuzumuremyi, a former military soldier in Rwanda Defense Forces.

Kizito Mihigo is known for his reconciliatory songs, and is the founder of KMP, Kizito Mihigo for Peace, a foundation that advocates for peace in the region. However, his recently released track Igisobonuro cy’urupfu, caused a media and public storm creating a fallout with the authorities.

In a statement released on Monday 14th April the police confirmed the arrest of the trio, while adding that investigations are still going on.

Rwanda Police spokesperson ACP Damas Gatare has also said that the three have “close links” with the Rwanda National Congress (RNC) and the Democratic Forces for Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) both of which have been accused by Kigali to carry out terrorist activities on Rwandan soil.

Both Kizito Mihigo and Cassien Ntamuhanga had gone missing just days before the country marked the 20th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi, fuelling speculations that they might not be alive.
