Gustave doing what he does best
Emcee Kate Gustave is a student of journalism at the NUR campus, who wasn’t popular among the students but his talent of cracking jokes, twisting words to warm up concerts in Kigali made him shine.
Kate started mceeing back in Eastern province as a radio community presenter in different music shows until he was relocated to NUR, where he started presenting Salus Relax show at Radio Salus.
At Salus Radio Kate used the opportunity to build his career as a professional emcee by teaming up with country’s popular emcees Mike Karangwa and Ally Suudi, who are experienced in the game.
Kate has featured in many album launches and in local bars, where artists perform every Fridays, and street ball and dance competitions.
MC Kate believes that one day he would like to be like the East African celebrated TPF(Tusker Project Fame) MC Mitch Egwanga, who also emceed here in Rwanda at the first edition of Miss Rwanda in 2009.
In Rwanda emceeing job is not taken seriously by many Rwandese but the people in the game believes that it pays but lack of skills like both languages used of French and English in Rwanda is a barrier to Rwandese emcees.
MC Kate is always buzy starting on Thursday up to Sundays and every show; he reaps 30,000-200,000 Rwf from shows, according to the people who turn for the shows.
MC Kate is also a professional entertainment journalist as well as a radio presenter at Radio 10, where he presents Top 10 super star show only for Rwandan celebrities.
Top Rwandan emcees include, Ally Suudi, Mike and Lion Manzi, this guy who recently shaved his long time dreads is one of the most expensive emcee in Rwanda because of speaking fluently both English and French languages.
MC Lion Manzi has featured in posh cooparent organized shows like Miss Rwanda event 2009, international artist’s concerts of Sean Paul, Shaggy and both big seasons of PrimusGuma Guma Super Star.
It is whispered around the town that MC Manzi can’t go on stage below 600000 Rwf which is only afforded by big companies like MTN, Bralirwa,Airtel and Tigo.
