Local hip hop star Jay Polly has insisted that he is still among the nominees of the annual Salax Awards. The rapper had been linked with a pull-out from the prestigious awards organized by Ikirezi Group, together with others who have already confirmed their lack of faith in the awards.

In a telephone interview Jay Polly strongly refuted the claims, heaping a lot of praise on the organizers and at the same time pointing out that they are the only reflection of how an artiste’s efforts can be recognized.

He said, “I did not pull out of Salax Awards and I am not even thinking about it. How that news broke out, I don’t know.” The rapper was initially quoted expressing concerns about the credibility of the tallying system but in a quick reflex came round and gave his nod towards the awards.

“It’s just that it would be better if we knew how the tallying was done to award the votes, but otherwise for me I think when a musician is awarded, they work hard and it’s the only way of recognizing their efforts,” he added.

It’s not just Jay Polly who has refuted claims that he has withdrawn from Salax Awards, with diva Knowless Butera also having been associated with a walk-out, reports she quickly referred to as “bizarrely untrue”.
