Already preparations are underway for the tournament to run smoothly, and five celebrities that include Tom Close, Elion Victory, Jay Polly, Uncle Austin and Dr. Claude have been confirmed to entertain the fans during the event.

The tournament shall see two hundred and fifty six non professional teams take part, with the eventual winner going home with a cool one million Rwandan francs. The first and second runner-up will pocket five hundred thousand and three hundred thousand Rwandan francs respectively.

Guests will then be entertained from 5pm to midnight with their favorite stars. It’s the first time Skol have organized such a tourney, although unconfirmed reports indicate it will be held annually henceforth.

Usually, every site picks five candidates who advance into the next round, and this time around it was as emotional as it could get. Niyonkuru M. who scooped the first place at the site was the most impressive, while there was a female candidate in the list, one Dusabimana.

The competition, formerly known as Talent Detection, was started four years ago by Skizzy of KGB crew to help young singing talents come up and to help them record songs with ease. So far ten people have qualified from two different sites, which are Kigali and Huye. Speaking to rwandashow.com, Skizzy said, “This time around it has been more entertaining and thrilling because in the previous editions, people thought the competition was only for kids. I am glad that the perception has changed.”

In April 1994, on a quiet road in Kigali a group of neighbors was filmed. This was the opening days of the Rwandan Genocide. This movie is about the extraordinary journey of that evidence as the original photographer returns to Rwanda, revisiting the people and events that he, by chance, caught on film. As the footage returns to the community, friends and family relive the tragic events as they work with the photographer to identify the victims, and then eventually the killers. The film discovers a witness, a school master who survived because his ethnicity was written wrongly on his ID card. As he stood with the killers at the roadblock, helplessly, the mother of a victim hiding in the house, just feet away, waiting endless minutes to be told her daughter is finally dead, the brother is beaten senseless and lying in the ditch he’s told kindly by his friend, “Let me beat you but I will not kill you.”

While his sister dies beside him, the looter who removed the doors from the victims’ houses as they were left to die-and most remarkably, the wife of the killer who secretly carried two babies through the front line to save them before returning to her murderous husband. Finally the search for the killers leads to the local court where on the last day a new arrest brings in the laughing militia leader and killer, caught on camera beating his neighbors to death.

Iseta: Behind the Roadblock is a documentary film by Juena Reina and Eric Kabera that puts a human face to the incomprehensible tragedy of 1994. It will be screened at Goethe Institute on Tuesday, 21st May 2013 at 6.30pm. Entrance will be free for all.

It all began with rumors of musicians bribing their way in it, and the rumors slowly developed into facts. When a famous radio presenter at City Radio, deejay Adams, publicly made the revelation of the bribes and how they are splashed out, many started doubting the authenticity of the competition. At the time Adams went ahead to point fingers at some of the musicians who gave out cash and to whom, him included as one of the beneficiaries.

If the ever increasing malicious trends that have become a hallmark of PGGSS for the past two seasons (and now three) are not curbed –and on time – then the future of this reality TV show will remain blur and on the brink of extinction – literally. The latest clause introduced by Bralirwa and East African Promoters of allowing voters to use one sim card several times per day to vote for one particular candidate has been greeted with total disapproval.

King James, wrestled the coveted prize of PGGSS season 2 against his bitter rival Jay Polly, amid widespread rigging claims

Already there were claims of widespread rigging in the first edition of the competition when Tom Close, who won it, was accused of using the same technique even though his bitter rival Jay Polly had a vivid and great fan base countrywide. Many observers whom rwandashow.com talked to expressed their lack of faith in this kind of voting system which would mean the winner will automatically have to be more financially endowed than the rest.

Whereas there’s no doubt that the real intention of PGGSS is to raise the standards of local music industry, the criteria being used may lead to some people questioning its eventual objectives if such misdemeanors and preventable errors continue to overshadow the norm.

Kigali Boyz crew member Skizzy says he sympathizes with Alex Muyoboke over what he calls “exploitation” by Rwandan musicians. Muyoboke was dealt, yet, another big blow when Urban Boyz abruptly dismissed him, ending their one-year relationship as their manager. Muyoboke has, in the past, worked with the likes of Tom Close and Dream Boyz, all of whom parted ways in acrimonious circumstances. But according to Skizzy, that goes down to the low standards of professionalism in Rwandan music industry, and the star says it’s Alex Muyoboke on the receiving end.

Speaking to Sunday Night Show on Isango Star, Skizzy said, “If you look at how hardworking the managers of these musicians are, you would not believe they are not even entitled to a salary because they (musicians) do not have the financial muscle to pay them.”

It is alleged Muyoboke had requested for a twenty percent increment, down from thirty which he was earning from the Urban Boyz, but shoddy details of what led to the two partying company have only emerged with Muyoboke saying that their contract had expired.

According to Skizzy, the whole Urban Boyz /Muyoboke saga indicates how fragile and unprofessional local music career is.

He added, “As far as I know, managers are supposed to deal with the financial aspects of musicians. They are also supposed to be paid on a regular basis as opposed to percentage handouts.”

It is expected that Muyoboke will land another contract with another famous musician very soon, having achieved much success with Urban Boyz, and according to Skizzy that is why the problem will keep on recurring. He said, “I am very sure very soon he will get a contract from another musician who will use him to climb up the ladder before dumping him just like the others.”

Primus Guma Guma Super Star always brings its shares of joy, happiness and inevitably, the bad and the ugly. Whereas all the weekend talk focused on its third edition’s first road show in Rusizi Western Province, it was Kamichi who caught the attention of those present in the most of bizarre ways. The afro beat singer left it late to present his flash drive – which contained his song Aho niho Ruzingiye – and when he was called on stage, he handed out the wrong drive which only contained a recorded talk show!

Bissoso, who was the deejay at the time, couldn’t help but laugh uncontrollably, while the song could not be found. It was decided at the eleventh hour that the song be changed and the star opted to perform another one altogether.

After the show, Bissoso was contacted to comment on the developments, and the famous deejay picked where he left by chuckling out hard while joking, “If I meet him (Kamichi) we are going to settle this issue at the police station!”

The four include Burundian born Kidum Kibido, Maiti Popo, Aron Niyitunga and Aimable Kubana. The four bring with them a considerable amount of experience in music industry, which will serve to settle down disputes that have arisen in the last two editions.

It will be the first time the competition sees judges introduced, and all eyes are fixed on how they will operate. In sharp contrast to other similar competitions, PGGSS is made up of already established stars and when the decision to include the judge-bench was announced this year, many pundits saw it as an unfair clause that would only serve to demean the contestants.

Meanwhile, Bralirwa and East African Promoters, the two main sponsors of the reality TV show, have announced that the road shows shall total ten, with six being playback, while four shall be performed live. It also expected that the final four shows shall be televised live on national television, before the curtains close down in July. Already the eleven contestants have take off to Rusizi, Western Province, where they will begin with their first road show, slated for 11th May 2013.
