Afro beat singer, Erick Senderi has urged fellow artists to put into consideration recording songs revealing Rwanda’s tortured history of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
The singer hails commemoration songs for helping in uniting the nation and educating Rwandan youth about the tragic history.
“Commemoration songs are healing, and they inspire hope among Rwandans, about a better future, one without differences,” says Senderi.
Senderi says many young artists are still reluctant about recording songs on Rwanda’s history.
The singer recently premiered a new video, for his song about the genocide dubbed Baruhukiye Inyanza, He plans to stage various shows around the country during the commemoration period.
Every year on, 7th, April, Rwanda starts the commemoration period to remember the more than one million Tutsi who were killed in the 1994 Genocide, in a period of 100 days.
The former APR freedom fighter Senderi composed over forty songs about Rwanda’s history, before and after the 1994 genocide.
