It was perhaps the biggest surprise of the night during the official unveiling of Salax Music Awards at Hill Top Hotel Kigali, when Fata Fata, a song perceived by many as best song of the year, failed to make it into any of the thirteen categories. The song has received much airplay on FM stations, while in night clubs and other hangout joints, deejays freely play it.
Prior to the ceremony, song writer DJ Zizou had bragged about the song’s success and how it would emerge victorious in Song of the Year category. However, Ama G’s Care, Ibitenge by Urban Boyz featuring King James, Kanda Amazi and Rubanda remix by Kina Music all stars and Umuriro Watse by King James were instead shortlisted in the category.
DJ Zizou’s track Bagupfusha Ubusa had won a similar award last year, but hopes of repeating the feat have all but been dashed. In order to promote the song even more aggressively, Zizou had planned what he called Fata Fata Tour of Rwanda, a tour he wanted to do around the country to popularize and market the song.
